Program Overview

The Galaxy Arts Center Youth Mentor Internship is a volunteer leadership program designed for high school students (ages 15-19) who is attending (or have completed) the Cosplay Workshop, or have equivalent experience. This isn’t just about building costumes, it’s about building leadership, teaching skills, and contributing to Orange County’s creative community.

Over the course of an 8 week workshop cycle, you’ll work alongside student artists and educators, supporting beginner cosplayers while developing valuable skills for college applications and future careers in arts education, design, or production.

Duration

8 weeks (aligned with one workshop series cycle)

Time Commitment

3-5 hours per week (including workshops + prep time)

Location

Galaxy Arts Center & remote (for non workshop session volunteer work)

Eligibility Requirements

• Be 13.5-19 years old at program start

•Must be a member of Galaxy Arts Center

• Have completed our Cosplay Workshop OR will be attending the workshop

• Maintain a 2.5+ GPA (or equivalent academic standing)

• Have parental/guardian consent (required for all minors)

• Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality

• Demonstrate patience and clear communication skills, with enthusiasm for helping others learn

• Have basic proficiency with cosplay tools (hot glue guns, cutting tool, sewing machines)

Intern Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

Workshop Support (75%) 

• Assist with setup and cleanup before/after each session 

• Help distribute and organize materials 

• Under direct supervision, demonstrate basic techniques to beginners 

• Provide one-on-one encouragement and troubleshooting help 

• Monitor tool safety among participants

Administrative Tasks (25%)

• Help with email and communication with participants 

• Take attendance of participants 

• Document workshop projects (photos with permission) 

• Provide feedback on curriculum improvements

Safety & Supervision:

• All interns work under direct supervision of a Galaxy Arts Center adult staff 

• Strict adherence to tool safety protocols 

Provide supervision aid to instructors to make sure participants are behaving accordingly, and not partaking in dangerous activities/usage of tools.
